Nutmeg and Kings... it's Christmas!
Aug 28, 2021If you could keep only ONE element of Christmas, what would you choose?
No time of year beats Christmas. The promise of family time, and unique memory-making moments, is just the best. The problem is, it's just too easy to forget that Jesus is the One the three Kings came to worship.
I've experienced some very worldly Christmases, as well as others that were much more deeply spiritual, when I truly enjoyed the celebration of the Incarnation. The difference? My willingness to set time aside to listen, ponder, worship. Don't let the busyness of the season rob you of its profound joy. Set aside special moments just for you and God (and maybe a cup of something yummy).
Get your Bible out. Pick a favorite Advent devotional--I cannot recommend enough Hidden Christmas by Tim Keller, and the Dawning of Indestructible Joy by John Piper if you want to go deep, fast. Louie Giglio's Waiting Here for You contains stunning ancient hymns and prayers.
And then there is worship music. I am a big fan of Lauren Daigle, Pentatonix, For King and Country, the Gettys, or Rend Collective when it comes to Christmas (or any other season, to be quite honest). Get your own mix of worship music and let adoration come over you.
